Commission: "Something Old"

I created this piece for a commission for an upcoming IA/MN SCBWI middle grade and young adult (MG/YA) workshop titled, “Something Old”. I am obsessed with mysteries and murder mysteries. My streaming video feed is almost all mysteries. But I also like history. And you know what’s really old and very cool? Egyptian art and artifacts: hieroglyphs, Egyptian canopic jars, towering statues, and other tomb treasures.

Updating your children's book portfolio

The 25th annual Books for Breakfast was a great event this past weekend on February 2nd, 2019. Lots of fabulous presentations. Although, I was not a presenter at this event my publisher, Minnesota Historical Society Press had a very nice table and sold lots of great books!

I am very excited to spill the beans! I've illustrated the picture book, THE MUKLUK BALL by Katharine Johnson to be released fall 2018.

It was a super, fun project! I danced and listened to a lot of music to fall into the rhythm of the book illustrations.

Mice Are Nice

I painted a series of mice going on an adventure in the woods. I grew up in the lush wooded hills of southern Wisconsin where spent many happy hours wandering the woods, building forts with my brother and sister. I love to the feel of earth between my toes.

In these paintings, I had a lot of fun with the mark making in the negative space.
